The New York Cancer Center first opened its doors with a mission to provide comprehensive care to cancer patients, not just physically, but emotionally as well. Understanding the importance of maintaining one's appearance, the Cancer Center got in touch with the American Cancer Society to help them train ten volunteers on how to do makeup and hair for cancer patients who had experienced hair loss. These trained volunteers helped patients fill in their eyebrows and provided makeup tips and tricks to help patients feel good about their appearance during their cancer treatment. This effort by the New York Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society demonstrated a commitment to addressing the emotional needs of cancer patients, recognizing that the small things can make a big difference in a patient's journey towards healing.
